Water Supply

About Our Water
The City of Vandalia owns and operates the water supply to meet the needs of the community.  The municipal water supply comes from a 40 acre, 160 million gallon reservoir located approximately eight miles northeast of the Vandalia city limits.  The City’s water treatment plant has the capacity to treat and produce 720,000 gallons of water per day.  Present average consumption is approximately 200,000 gallons per day with peak season consumption just over 250,000 gallons per day.
 
Water Treatment
The Water Treatment Division regularly monitors the drinking water for potential contaminants.  The department complies with all Department of Natural Resource testing.

Wastewater Treatment
The City of Vandalia’s wastewater treatment facility consists of a four-cell irrigation lagoon, with farm land irrigation capabilities.  The facility is capable of treating 600,000 gallons daily.  The current load is approximately 400,000 gallons daily.
